Accountant creates bespoke weather service for tiny rural village
ROSS PARRY SYNDICATION: An accountant has created a detailed weather forecast for the rural village he lives in after becoming increasingly frustrated by the professionals' faulty predictions.
Simon Cansick formed the website with highly accurate and comprehensive information on a tiny area for its grateful residents.
And the weather service has already gained a following from the population of the village – which doesn't even have a pub or a news agent.
Simon, 47, decided to create the forecast service, which provides live information 24 hours a day, after finding that the predictions he was being given for his village of Duggleby, North Yorks., were often wrong.
So the keen amateur meteorologist, who earns his living auditing accounts, set up www.dugglenet.org where visitors will see details on air temperature, air pressure, wind speed and other key elements.
He set up a weather vane and an anemometer on the roof of his house, as well as instruments to measure rainfall and air pressure, to provide him with the pinpoint readings, which he then shares with his followers through his website.
