Baby continues a century-old tradition
ROSS PARRY SYNDICATION: These pictures show the amazing journey a 113-year-old christening gown has made as it has been passed down through five generations of one proud family.
Beautiful Taylor Bailey Locker is the most recent baby to don the flowing robe, which is still in phenomenal condition - despite dating from 1897.
The garment, made of white cotton trimmed with broderie anglaise, is in the safe keeping of Mary Locker, proud great-grandmother of Taylor, when it's not being used.
The gown, made by Mary's grandma, Annie Sayers, has clad 30 babies over the period and is still going strong.
Mary, 77, of Whitby, North Yorks., said: "I'm the eldest one of the family and after it's been used I wash it very carefully by hand and keep it wrapped in tissue paper.
Mary said that, so far, the gown has been worn by five generations of the family - her father, her and her three siblings, their nine children - including three of Mary's own, their 18 children and now four from the fifth generation including baby Taylor.
