Baby injured in motorway crash
A four-week old baby has been hurt in a motorway accident when an ambulance skidded on ice and overturned.
The vehicle believed to be from West Yorkshire, was transferring the young boy from a hospital in Preston, Lancs., to Leeds General Infirmary, West Yorks., when it slid and crashed.
Police say the boy's parents were travelling separately and were now at the boy's bedside.
The ambulance lay on its side at one side of the bridge as police accident investigators carried out their inquires.
The baby, from Lancashire, was reported by police as "stable" and was recovering at Leeds General Infirmary. The M62 was closed for several hours as crash investigators examined the crash site.
No other people were injured but the paramedics driving the ambulance were treated for shock.
West Yorkshire police Inspector Adrian Lyles said: "It is believed that ice on the roadway was a primary contributory factor."
