Drinks tester to insure taste buds for 10m pounds
A 'supertaster' whose employers are keen to preserve his unique talent is in negotiations to have his taste buds insured for the flavoursome sum of 10m pounds.
Product developer Andy Laidlow, 34, is so good at recognising amazing subtleties in flavours that his employers have been forced to protect their star man's skills.
Global Brands, which develop new flavours for drinks including vodka drink VK, hope to insure Andy's talent for between one and 10m pounds with insurers Swinton.
To make sure his taste buds are in tip-top working order, Andy, nicknamed 'Flavours' by his workmates, makes sure to avoid anything that could harm his precious talent - such as strong curries and smoking.
Andy, of Devon, who has worked for the company - based in Chesterfield, Derbys., - for ten years, said: "It's great to know that you're valued in what you do, I'm pleased that my taste talent has been recognised.
"It's surprising that my taste buds are worth so much. I do try and take care of them, I have a responsibility to do that now."
