Lightning strikes twice for three-year-old who needs second liver transplant
Lightning has tragically struck twice for the family of an adorable three-year-old girl who is in desperate need of a second liver transplant to save her life.
Brave Niamh Coyne hit the headlines in February last year when her fearful parents, Hannah Wilkins and Rob Coyne, made a heartfelt appeal for donors to come to the aid of their poorly tot.
She was given the organ after being pushed to the top of the list when she was given days to live, but her heartbroken parents have now found out that her new liver has failed and are hoping another generous donor will come to their rescue once again.
Niamh was born with a rare condition called gastroschisis, which resulted in her being born with her bowels outside of her tiny body and requiring life-saving surgery just days later.
Mum Hannah said: "I just think 'the poor girl, she is still unwell'. I know that if she hadn't had all of the tiring treatment and medicine then she wouldn't be here today but it is unlucky."
