Man found his partner dead in bed from mystery illness

ROSS PARRY SYNDICATION: The sudden death of a healthy 26-year-old mum from a mystery illness has led to fears that her two young children could suffer a similar fate.

Amanda Axall was found lifeless in bed by her devastated partner Basil Byrne – who had just returned from a night shift and believed she was just in a mood with him and tried to talk her round.

Basil then realised she had inexplicably died and has now been advised to get the couple's children checked over to make sure they don't suffer from a hereditary defect.

Dr Lisa Barker, a consultant pathologist at St James' Hospital, told the hearing in Leeds, West Yorks., the exact cause of Amanda's death was "unascertained" and there had been no signs of a heart attack, heavy asthma attack or insulin overdose.

However, she said: "It could be 'dead-in'bed' syndrome (when] the heart stops suddenly."

Recording a verdict of death by natural causes, coroner David Hinchliff said it was "advisable" for Amanda's children to be examined by a cardiologist for a possible hereditary heart condition.
