Secluded nuns embrace 21st-century technology

ROSS PARRY SYNDICATION: A group of nuns who live an age-old enclosed life have embraced 21st century technology with a new digital device which helps them pray for the needy.

The nine sisters of Poor Clares convent have pledged to live in an enclosed order which sees them living a contemplative life filled with prayer and haven't had modern technology until now.

The union began when the monastery bought a computer three years ago after it was suggested they could keep in touch with other convents more easily through email.

The devout sisters were left flummoxed by their new equipment and one of the women sought the help of a family member who was working with Goldsmiths at the time.

They were then given Goldie', a T-shaped electronic gadget which keeps them up to date with headlines from around the globe so they can send their wishes to those who are suffering.

The informative appliance has alerted the nuns to a range of huge news stories since its introduction, including the murderous rampages of Derrick Bird and Raoul Moat.
