Women turned away from pub for being too old
ROSS PARRY SYNDICATION: A group of women were barred from entering a popular pub - for being too OLD.
The stunned group were told they could not go in for drinks if they were aged 35 or over.
And, to add insult to injury, door staff at the Courtyard Bar in Leeds, West Yorks., said: "Your daughters can come in but not your mums."
Angry Carol Borthwick, 62, who works for the Government, said: "We were greeted by door staff who asked us our ages. Obviously we thought they were joking and, smiling, we made to go in."
But the spritely grandmother added: "We gradually realised that, far from joking, they were in deadly earnest and told the mums of the group that we were too old to come in."
Mrs Borthwick has complained to the pub company Mitchells & Bulmers.
A spokesman said: "The Courtyard is enjoyed by customers of all ages. We are committed to treating our customers equally and fairly and do not tolerate discrimination in any form, whether in terms of age or otherwise.
