Yorkshire feels the cold after heavy snowfall

These two deer were left feeling the cold after snow blanketed the grounds of the stately home where they reside.

The pair were spotted observing the picturesque scene at the Harewood House estate, in Leeds, West Yorks., the home of the Queen's cousin the Earl of Harewood.

Elsewhere heavy snowfall caused chaos on the roads in Yorkshire as drivers struggled with blizzard conditions and sheet ice under compacted snow.

Across affected areas thousands of schoolchildren were told to stay home as over 200 schools closed and motorists were warned to only make necessary journeys.

The Met Office put a severe weather warning in place across the entire Yorkshire and Humber region.

Forecasters said up to 15cm (5.9in) of snow was expected on higher ground and up to 6cm (2.3in) in other areas.

The AA warned motorists to take extra care in the difficult conditions.

It advised those travelling by car to keep to roads and only to drive as fast as conditions allowed.
